Cisco Meraki MX64W Security Appliance for small branch sites clocks in at twice the firewall throughput of our previous model, the popular MX60W, while sporting a slimmer chassis. The MX64W’s two-radio architecture allows dual-concurrent, 2 x 2 MIMO operation and supports both 2.4GHz and 5GHz clients. The Cisco Meraki MX64W is an integrated router, next-generation firewall, traffic shaper, and Internet gateway that is centrally managed over the web. The MX64W offers an extensive feature set, yet is incredibly easy to deploy and manage. Intuitive web-based administration eliminates specialized training and dedicated staff, and cloud-based centralized management provides seamless multi-site networks, automatic firmware upgrades, and much more.

The MX64W is ideal for organizations managing multiple small branch locations that want rock-solid security and 11ac wireless (about 3 times faster than today’s 802.11n standard) in a single device.

The MX64W supports bleeding-edge and market-leading intrusion prevention (IPS) via an integrated Sourcefire engine. IPS is performed via rulesets: pre-defined security policies that determine the level of protection needed. Sourcefire refreshes rulesets daily to ensure protection against the latest vulnerabilities—including exploits, viruses, rootkits, and more—and these are pushed via the cloud to MX customers within an hour, with no manual staging or patching needed.

Combine this threat protection with integrated malware/anti-phishing and cloud content filtering, and network admins have a robust security solution that is easy to deploy and seamlessly maintains itself.

Great Device but MX64 and MR Would be Better

Posted by NetworkPro on 2017 Sep 18th

The Meraki MX64W is a cloud managed security appliance with integrated 802.11ac wifi, 1 x WAN (Internet) port, 4 x LAN Gigabit Ethernet ports and supports both site-to-site VPN and client VPN, up to 50 clients, has a WAN throughput of 250 Mbps and is an ideal security appliance for a small home office or remote teleworker. The MX64 also supports advanced security features such as intrusion detection and prevention, content filtering, antivirus/malware detection and prevention, etc. as long as you purchase the respective MX Advanced Security License vs the less feature rich MX Enterprise License. Licenses are available in 1, 3, 5, 7 & 10 year terms with the longer terms being the best value. With the multi-year terms you essentially get 3 years for the price of 2 years, 5 years for the price of 3 years, 7 years for the price of 5 years and 10 years for the price of 7 years. Therefore, you should only consider purchasing the 3, 5, 7 and 10 year licenses only. The Meraki dashboard and enterprise support the licenses give you access to are both top notch. The build quality of the device is incredibly high and is built to last coming with a limited lifetime warranty with next day advance ship replacement in the event of hardware failure. Cisco Meraki's ease of deployment, management and reporting via their cloud-based dashboard is simply not matched in the industry. The integrated 802.11ac wifi in the MX64W does not mesh with other Meraki MR wireless access points, therefore, this device is only recommended for a small environment that is small enough where a single device will provide suitable coverage. While the MX64W is a leader amongst security devices with integrated wifi you would be better served to purchase the Meraki MX64 and standalone Meraki MR wireless access point(s) instead.

Limited lifetime hardware warranty with next-day advanced replacement included. MX Enterprise License and MX Advanced Security License include 24/7 enterprise class support provided by Cisco Meraki.
